Lily Pond, acrylic on canvas,30x40x1, Our backyard pond is my husband’s hobby, and home to about ten coi, at last count. This is a study of geometry in the composition. Color composition shows two zones, grey at the top, transitioning into color in the lower half… in order to render depth and distance. The actual distance shown is only a few feet, maybe ten feet. Then, for balance, the rule of thirds is seen in the two focal points, which sort of fight for attention…the pink lily, and the yellow pad. Two grey rocks, upper left, lower right, serve as parentheses to frame in the whole image. I love the challenge of rendering the movement of light over moving water.
